Study on Biotechnology in Bavaria 2022
May 2023 – During the Covid-19 pandemic, biotechnology gained increased political and societal recognition. It became a beacon of hope for addressing this global crisis. Climate change is another significant driver for the development, production, and application of innovative biotechnological products and processes. Particularly in white (industrial) biotechnology, there has been a shift in perception regarding the acceptance and awareness of the technology’s potential applications.
In collaboration with partners ECONUM Unternehmensberatung GmbH and SBR Consulting, BIOCOM AG published a new study on biotechnology in Bavaria, titled “Growth through Innovation”, on behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy (StMWi) in April 2023.
The Bavarian state government aims to position Bavaria as a leading biotechnology hub in Europe and to advance future-oriented topics in the specialised fields of red and white biotechnology. The new study on biotechnology in Bavaria included an extensive indicator-based analysis of Bavaria’s performance, grounded in data research, expert interviews, and benchmarking comparisons. Based on a SWOT analysis, fields of action were identified, and specific recommendations for action were formulated to further strengthen Bavaria’s biotechnology capabilities in the future.
