Rural bioeconomy: New EU project launched

Brussels, 20.12.2018 – BIOCOM is part of the new EU project BE-Rural, which aims to tap the potential of bio-based economies in rural areas.

The bio-based economy is a great opportunity for regional communities, but it is not yet sufficiently harnessed throughout the EU. Many regions have not yet succeeded in developing a flourishing bioeconomy. To help the situation, the BE-Rural project was launched, which is funded by the EU under the umbrella of Horizon 2020.

The project, which is coordinated by Ecologic Institute, aims not only to support the development of regional bioeconomy strategies and roadmaps, but also to educate about the bioeconomy. To this end, stakeholders from politics, business, research and civil society will be involved.

Within the framework of the project, the BIOCOM communications team will be responsible for both work package 3 “Education, awareness and engagement” and work package 6 “Dissemination, communication and exploitation”. Also involved are the University of Strathclyde, WIP Renewable Energies and other partners from Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, Latvia and Romania.
