Vienna, 25.10.2021 – Record numbers wherever you look: In the field of life sciences, Austria is in outstanding shape. This year BIOCOM once again compiled statistics of the biotech sector in Austria – with welcome results.
The report “Life Science Report Austria 2020” shows: The life sciences industry has grown substantially in recent years. Since 2018, the number of companies in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical technology has risen to almost 1,000. 5,000 new jobs were created and the companies generated a record turnover of 25.1 billion euros.
At the presentation of the study, Austria’s Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs, Margarete Schramböck, explained: “Austria is to become the pharmacy of Europe. That is why we have also placed a focus on the life science sector in the budget and will invest another 100 million euros in the expansion of Austria as a life science location over the next two years!” The pandemic has shown how important the production and security of supply of medicines is, she added.
BIOCOM compiled the Life Science Report Austria on behalf of the aws and the Federal Ministry for Digitalisation and Economic Location. It contains not only key figures on the Austrian life science sector, but also data on basic research institutions.
