European Biotechnology Magazine Summer 2024

Berlin, 3 June 2024 – The Three Rs principle (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement), developed over 60 years ago, provides a framework for more humane and, above all, fewer animal experiments in laboratories. A variety of in-vitro model systems now exist that could one day replace animal-based programmes, but only recently has the use of multi-organ chips gained significant momentum. Advanced technologies are increasingly enabling the replication of human tissues and organs for testing purposes.
