European Biotechnology Magazine Spring 2025
Berlin, 20 March 2025 – Faster, bolder, simpler – Ursula von der Leyen’s cabinet set the course with the Clean Industrial Deal in January. However, the dispute between Commissioners over responsibilities and a lack of strategic investment in the EU bioeconomy to reduce CAPEX costs for green facilities to produce fossil-free, sustainable aviation fuels, chemicals, cultured food, feed, ingredients and compostable materials that can replace plastics are currently jeopardising one of Europe’s greatest economic opportunities for recovery – and for reduced dependence on China and the US.
