Bioeconomy career paths: inspiration for young talent
Berlin, December 12, 2024 – What does the future of the bioeconomy hold? And what opportunities does it offer young people? These were the key questions explored at the event “Future Prospects in the Bioeconomy,” which brought 130 young participants to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Berlin this past November. The event was organised by BIOCOM Interrelations GmbH on behalf of the BMBF.
The event aimed to spark young people’s interest in the bioeconomy, showcase education and career opportunities, and encourage them to play an active role in shaping a more sustainable society. Hosted by Tobias Brügmann, the event offered a dynamic programme featuring inspiring keynote speeches, discussion panels, and an insightful exhibition. Attendees got a comprehensive look at the diverse world of bioeconomy – from cutting-edge scientific innovations to real-world career paths.
In her opening remarks, BMBF State Secretary Judith Pirscher underscored the importance of engaging young people in driving societal change: “If you want to make a meaningful impact, the bioeconomy is the place to be.” She highlighted the bioeconomy as a future-oriented field that combines science, innovation, and sustainability while offering exciting career opportunities.
Highlight: The Interactive Video Exhibition
A standout feature of the event was the interactive video exhibition in the foyer, showcasing the journeys of five passionate professionals in the bioeconomy. On large screens, architect Hanaa Dahy, agricultural researcher Kathrin Grahmann, biotechnologist Florian Hänsel, climate-conscious farmer Sebastian Petri, and environmental engineer Michell Spitzer shared their personal education and career stories. Visitors could use touchscreens to explore specific topics and dive deeper into each person’s journey. The video exhibition, produced by BIOCOM’s media team, is available online at biooekonomie.de/akteure/video-ausstellung.
The event itself was captured on film and can be viewed on the information platform biooekonomie.de .
With its engaging program and multimedia elements, “Future Prospects in the Bioeconomy” created a vibrant forum to guide and inspire young people to contribute to a sustainable future.
