New Owners Take Over BIOCOM Interrelations GmbH

,
  • Joachim Eeckhout and Michael Kuhrt have acquired BIOCOM Interrelations GmbH, publisher of transkript and European Biotechnology Magazine.
  • The new owners aim to strengthen BIOCOM’s legacy and grow its role in European biotech journalism.
  • BIOCOM’s portfolio will be complemented by Eeckhout’s projects, The Science Marketer and Biotech Snap, to expand its digital reach.
  • The shared vision: build a leading independent media group that supports biotech, pharma, medtech, and digital health innovation through quality journalism and professional communication services.

BERLIN, October 30th, 2025 — BIOCOM Interrelations GmbH (BIOCOM), a company known for its biotech publications and communications expertise, has been acquired by Joachim Eeckhout and Michael Kuhrt. Together, they plan to expand BIOCOM’s role as a key voice in Europe’s life sciences ecosystem.

BIOCOM Interrelations publishes several respected media outlets, including:

  • transkript, a leading German-language publication covering the biotech industry in Germany and the DACH region,
  • European Biotechnology Magazine, focusing on the European biotech landscape in English, and
  • the European Biotechnology Guide, European Medtech Guide, and German Biotechnology Guide, which list and profile the major companies shaping the sectors.

For three decades, BIOCOM has played a central role in connecting stakeholders across the biotech, pharma, medtech, and digital health ecosystem, first in the DACH region, then increasingly across Europe.

The company’s new owners bring complementary experience and vision:

  • Joachim Eeckhout previously founded Labiotech.eu, one of Europe’s most influential biotech media outlets, which was acquired by Inova (now In-part) in 2022. After Labiotech expanded globally, the European market was left without an independent biotech media voice, a gap Eeckhout now aims to fill.
  • Michael Kuhrt returns to BIOCOM after six years of leading projects in AI and consumer publishing. Having spent much of his career inside BIOCOM, he brings valuable institutional knowledge and operational insight to the new phase of expansion.

Together, Eeckhout and Kuhrt aim to make BIOCOM a major European player in biotech media, combining journalistic excellence with modern digital storytelling.

“European biotech deserves strong, independent journalism,” says Joachim Eeckhout. “BIOCOM has been a trusted voice for years, and we want to build on that foundation, bringing new energy, formats, and ideas to connect the community across Europe and the world.”

“I’m thrilled to return to BIOCOM at a time of renewal,” adds Michael Kuhrt. “This company has always stood for credibility and quality. Together, we’ll evolve it for a new era, while staying true to the people and values that built its reputation.”

BIOCOM Interrelations GmbH was previously a wholly owned subsidiary of BIOCOM AG in Berlin. Andreas Mietzsch, CEO of BIOCOM AG, adds: “With the sale, the management of our former subsidiary is passing into younger hands. So we can certainly talk about a generational change, which fits in well with the rapid changes in the European media landscape.”

In addition to the acquisition, Eeckhout and Kuhrt plan to merge two of Eeckhout’s ventures — The Science Marketer and Biotech Snap — into BIOCOM’s portfolio, creating a stronger and more diversified media group.

The Science Marketer is a newsletter and consultancy helping life sciences companies improve their marketing and communication, while Biotech Snap is a fast-growing daily newsletter offering global biotech news in a fresh, smart format.

These brands will complement BIOCOM’s established publications, combining editorial depth with modern digital reach, and accelerating the company’s transformation into a multi-platform media group for the life sciences community.

The first strategic projects under the new leadership will be unveiled in early 2026, including refreshed editorial formats and new partnerships across Europe. Readers of transkript and European Biotechnology Magazine can expect expanded digital coverage and a closer integration between the print and online worlds.
